How to Lose Weight While Grilling Out

Summer is here and it's time to fire up the grills. Hamburgers, hotdogs, chili, potato salad, steaks... Your mouth waters just at the thought. For many of us our belly expands as well. One of the best ways to kill that goal of losing weight fast and looking good for the beach is to do a ton of grilling out this summer. Is there a way that you can have your grilling and lose weight at the same time? You bet there is. Read on to find out how you can grill your cake and eat it too.

Steaks are a quintessential grilling food. Problem is a lot of the cuts of meat that we cook on the grill are heavy on fat. Fortunately, this is an easy one to take care of. Most of the fat is going to be in strips around the meat so simply make sure to trim off the fatty sections prior to cooking it.

For many people grilling and barbecue are synonymous. One great way to infuse a ton of flavor into barbecue cuts of meat such as ribs without adding in tons of fat is to coat them generously with a dry rub. A dry rub is a mixture of spices that you coat the meat with prior to cooking. Since it lacks the fat of many barbecue sauces it is a great, healthy way to add tremendous flavor to your meat. Here is an example of a simple dry rub that is very tasty and versatile:

4 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper
1 teaspoons cayenne

Just mix it together, coat your meat and then grill. Healthy never tasted so good.

Any healthy way to lose weight includes heavy doses of vegetables. Unfortunately, many people never consider the vegetables when they grill out. You can grill pretty much any vegetable but some are definitely easier than others. Corn is always an easy, healthy vegetable to grill. Others are asparagus, bell peppers, squash and zucchini. What you are essentially looking for are vegetables that are firm and do not crumble when you grill them. And don't forget to cube some vegetables and meat to make delicious shish-ka-bobs.

Fish is another food that is often not thought about when grilling. Some firmer fishes such as tuna steaks can be grilled straight on the grill but many of the flakier fishes will just fall apart. For these fish simply place a piece of aluminum foil on the grill and cook the fish on it. Fish is one of the healthiest foods that you can eat and grilling it adds a fantastic smoky flavor.
